About Westwinds Cruising
Owners and skippers Donald and Robin Gibson started off in the fishing industry on board their family trawler Spes Bona II during the early 1980's. Between them they have gained 50 years of experience and knowledge at sea.
Being able to competently handle a large vessel is only a part of being qualified to be at sea. Knowledge of navigation, meteorology, engineering, hydraulics, electronics and of course keeping a cool head in times of adverse weather conditions are all of equal importance and we are qualified and confident of all of the above.
In addition to Westwinds we also own and skipper our current fishing vessel Spes Bona V, which we commissioned to be built in 2004.
Spes Bona V is a custom built 15 metre trawler built locally by Ardmaleish Boatbuilding Co in Bute. We catch prawns, some species of fish and scallops- so supplying customers with high quality seafood is not a problem.
